CCHC Certification/Endorsement: Initial Application and Renewal

The NC Child Care Health Consultant Certification/Endorsement (CCHC-C/E) verifies that a qualified health professional has met the requirements established by 

These requirements reflect the education, training, and experience necessary to provide CCHC services. The CCHC-C/E recognizes and validates the accomplishments of the CCHC and confirms that the necessary requirements for an individual to receive Technical Assistance Endorsement (TAE) have been met. 

CCHCs holding a current certification can provide technical assistance for countable credit  as outlined in the NC Child Care Rules: 10A NCAC 09 .1103 ON-GOING TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Membership in the CCHC Association

  • Certification/Endorsement is a benefit of annual CCHCA membership; there are no additional cost to apply or remain certified.
  • If applying in July and not yet a member of the CCHC Association (which opens August 1st each year), Certification/Endorsement Certificates will be awarded upon confirmation of membership in August.

Active CCHC Status

CCHCs must document having completed 1,000 hours of work as a CCHC. Hours are counted from the date of CCHC Course completion.

Two Evaluations

  1. Supervisor or professional peer who can evaluate your CCHC knowledge and skills and verify completion of 1,000 hours of CCHC work.
  2. Consultee (childcare facility director, owner, or early educator) who you have worked with to provide CCHC services.

Complete application with six portfolio entries reflecting six distinct areas of CCHC competency:

  • Illness and Infectious Disease
  • Children with Special Health Care Needs
  • Medication Administration
  • Safety and Injury Prevention
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Infant and Child Social and Emotional Wellbeing
  • Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Nutrition and Physical Activity
  • Oral Health
  • Environmental Health
  • Staff Health and Wellness

In one of the following ways:

  • Consultation, coaching, or technical assistance
  • Training or health education
  • Policy review, development, and implementation
  • Assessment and quality improvement planning using the NC HSAET

Documentation for each entry is required**. Examples of documentation include a completed HSAET section, training roster, or completed policy.

Membership in the CCHC Association

  • Certification/Endorsement is a benefit of annual CCHCA membership; there are no additional cost to apply or remain certified.

Active CCHC Status

2,000 hours of work as a CCHC over a five-year period. Hours may be counted from the date on the most recent CCHC Certification/Endorsement Certificate.

Complete application indicating documentation** of two renewal activities completed during the five-year period from date on most recent Certification/Endorsement Certificate.

**All personally identifiable information must be removed from HSAET documentation. Any document with PII will not count towards required documentation.
